Introducing Sapere Aude

Hello! You are probably here because you are an A Level Philosophy student at Nailsea School. If you aren't, welcome anyway.

The purpose of this blog is to allow students to ask and answer questions about the course and to continue discussions on the topics covered in class. You can discuss essays and exams, share useful information and links, help each other to revise and generally chat about Philosophy.

Sapere aude is Latin for "Dare to know" or "Have the courage to think". So, please be prepared to risk your thoughts on this site. And keep it polite!

To the right you will find links to various useful sites. Check them out. The AQA site includes sample papers and mark schemes, as well as the full specification. It's not too soon to look at an exam paper and to start practising. The UCAS site is there to help you research your university course options.

  8. Ahh, I cannot cope with all of these decisions, Some say Bells, Some say Irish..Maybe I should just ask Sir. I will go for whatever means i have more money left. :D Thanks for the help

  9. just get both, and pour half of each out into other bottles, then give him that. guess what you do with the other half :)

  10. I am guessing we give the other half to family for Christmas saying that they are sharing a present and then we don't drink any...Ha, or perhaps we drink it ourselves. But one problem, Sir knows what we are doing now *cough*

  11. shhhh we never said anything...

  12. It is I, now that i have read all this talk on Sir christmas present i have come to the conclusion that we should do as Graeme said do the half and half thing!! however instead of giving the rest to family we should use it to satisfy our own alcoholism!!

  13. The Philosophy hidden behind this, I drink therefore I am ;). and to graeme's comment its "i believe therfore i am". but simon on a more serious note, whisky is the way forward. Me, who is me?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I agree who is ME? Ha yeah Whisky is a serious note, but lets keep it not too serious Matt.

I like that philosophy, I drink therefore I am.. Nice one :D

  15. I feel that ME must be Matt East, for they are his initials, and I am envious of these intitials. They are cooler than CM. Centimetres are boring. HELLO EVERYBODY. Quadjo = Claire by the way. Haha I came on here and just saw discussions about whiskey, I thought I'd stumbled onto the wrong page! Then I realised. Ah man I've written a monster of a paragraph without even trying...

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ah man, I spelt initials wrong...that's gonna annoy me big time

  20. Ok, Listen. Whiskey = Irish or American; whisky = scotch, which is blended and relatively cheap. Bells is a good scotch. But the real thing is malt whisky, which comes from four regions in Scotland and each is very distinctive, For example, malt whisky from Islay is especially smokey and leathery. Your ignorance on this subject is shocking. What do schools teach you these days?

Now forget the whisky. Don't forget to email me with your Googlemail email addresses.

    ReplyDelete
  21. i never new there was such a big difference in Whiskeys ... i do now

    i emailed you :D:D

    ReplyDelete
  22. so sir likes islay's lagavulin does he? i myself am actually more partial to a good kentucky bourbon like jack daniels or jim beam, my granddad like lagavulin but i don't really care for it, i mean, it's all right but i was raised of ol' jack's and your fancy varieties don't float my boat none :)

  31. You all speak of giving Whiskey or Scotch, but I am going to get him a lovely new tie. I think it is a great present and one that will not lead him down the wrong road....

    ReplyDelete
  32. unless it has a map on it that gives him wrong directions...

    ReplyDelete
  33. or unless it's an evil tie and secretly poisons his thoughts, causing him to plot world domination...
